Iredell Health System Names Director of Risk Management & Patient Safety

Lindsay Smith is no stranger to Iredell Health System, having worked as the organization’s Hospital-Based Skilled Nursing Administrator for over a decade. Smith has now been named Director of Risk Management & Patient Safety.

Smith holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with a minor in healthcare from Heidelburg University in Tiffin, Ohio. She has been licensed as a nursing home administrator in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and North Carolina and has several years of experience as an administrator in these states. While she loves working in nursing home administration, her new position will give her the chance to make a greater impact.

“I am genuinely excited about the opportunity to use my risk assessment skills I gained in my former role, which allowed me to proactively identify potential risks before they became major issues within our unit,” said Smith. “I look forward to collaborating with different departments to develop new strategies and data to minimize the potential negative impacts on our health system.”

Smith’s new role includes working with health system administration to develop and implement internal risk management and patient safety protocols in accordance with regulatory authorities. She will research and resolve incidents to decrease risk to the organization and increase patient safety. Health system administration welcomes Smith with open arms.

“Lindsay has been a leader in our organization for more than a decade along with prior healthcare leadership at multiple other skilled nursing facilities,” said John Green, Iredell Health System President and CEO. “We were so excited when Lindsay asked about the Risk position and noting that she wanted to branch out from her then current role with Iredell Health. The Risk Manager role requires an inquisitive, critical thinking leader to ask the right questions and get to the right answers. It also needs to be someone well respected in the organization to gain clear input and have the support of the team. Lindsay fits that description perfectly and will provide strong support for the clinical needs of the health system in this new role.”

Outside of work, Smith enjoys spending time with her husband, Doug, and children, Matthew, Kacie, and Katie. She loves traveling to spend time with close friends and family, especially to Ohio State games.

“When you do what you love with the people you love doing it with, it makes life extremely enjoyable,” said Smith.
