Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 - October 15, 2026
WHEREAS, each year from September 15 through October 15, our nation observes Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring the histories, cultures, struggles, achievements, and enduring contributions of Hispanic and Latino people to the United States; and
WHEREAS, Latino history is American history, shaped by generations whose labor, entrepreneurship, culture, service, and sacrifice have strengthened our nation and our community, often without the recognition or representation they deserve, underscoring the importance of Latino voices and leadership in the civic life of Statesville; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic and Latino communities have demonstrated extraordinary resilience through generations of challenges and barriers to opportunity, while continuing to build families, businesses, and communities, preserve rich cultural traditions, and contribute to a stronger and more vibrant Statesville; and
WHEREAS, the Alliance for Latino Advocacy & Success (ALAS), alongside educators, businesses, faith communities, civic organizations, and community partners, works to strengthen connections, expand access to education and opportunity, advocate for Latino families, encourage civic participation and leadership, and ensure that Hispanic and Latino voices are heard and represented in the community we share; and
WHEREAS, we recognize the importance of investing in the next generation of Hispanic and Latino leaders, ensuring that our young people can see themselves not only as part of Statesville's present, but as business owners, educators, professionals, public servants, community leaders, and decision-makers shaping its future; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month provides an opportunity to celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of our Hispanic and Latino community and to recognize that Statesville is strongest when the people and cultures that have helped shape our city are valued, represented, and empowered to help lead its future;
