City of Statesville Proclaims September 2026 as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

Suicide Prevention Month

September 2026

WHEREAS, September is recognized as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness about suicide prevention, promote mental health and encourage individuals and communities to take action; and

WHEREAS, the 2026 theme, "Stronger Together: Connect. Support Prevent.," highlights the importance of building meaningful connections, supporting individuals in needs and working together to prevent suicide; and

WHEREAS, suicide is preventable, and everyone can play a role in recognizing warning signs, starting conversations about mental health and connecting individuals with appropriate resources and assistance; and

WHEREAS, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline provides free, confidential support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for individuals experiencing emotional distress, suicidal thoughts or mental health crisis, as well as those concerned about someone else; and

WHEREAS, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Be Well Iredell and other community partners provide education, resources and support to individuals and families throughout Statesville and Iredell County; and

WHEREAS, the City of Statesville encourages residents to strengthen connections, support one another and help create a community where everyone feels safe seeking help;

NOW THEREFORE, I, J. Douglas Hendrix, Mayor of the City of Statesville, do hereby proclaim the month of September 2026 as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month in the City of Statesville and encourage all residents to connect, support, and prevent suicide together.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have set my Hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Statesville to be affixed this 14th day of September 2026.
