Update: August 10, 2026 at 4:30p

Gaither Road is now open to traffic following the completion of repairs in the area.

August 10, 2026 at 9:00a

Gaither Road will close around 9 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2026, while City Water crews complete additional repairs related to the sinkhole in the area. At this time, there is no estimated time for the road to reopen.

A previous waterline break washed away soil beneath the roadway near a sewer line, creating a void under the road. Crews will excavate the affected area and replace the material with properly compacted soil to stabilize the roadway and help prevent the sinkhole from reopening.

Gaither Road will be closed near the lower entrance to Randy Marion Chevrolet and below the entrance to Bellingham Family Medicine.

All businesses along Gaither Road will remain accessible. Depending on your destination, you may need to approach the area from a different direction or use an alternate route. Motorists are asked to use caution around the work area. Updates will be provided as work progresses.
