Statesville Public Power has been recognized by ElectriCities of North Carolina with Public Power Awards of Excellence for 2025 in all five award categories, highlighting the utility’s commitment to its customers, employees and the Statesville community.
The awards were presented during the Statesville City Council meeting on October 5 by Paul Hauser, Chief Operating Officer for ElectriCities of North Carolina, to Cody Leis, Statesville Public Power Director. The recognition comes as Statesville joins public power communities across the country in celebrating Public Power Week.
ElectriCities is the membership organization that provides power supply and related critical services to more than 90 community-owned electric systems in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia, collectively known as public power.
The Public Power Awards of Excellence recognize public power providers across five categories for developing a future-focused mindset, strengthening public power, providing superior power, delivering customer-centered innovation and prioritizing their people as their greatest asset.
Statesville Public Power received recognition in all five categories:
- Future-Focused Award – Recognizes communities that develop a future-focused mindset.
- Strengthen Public Power Award – Celebrates communities that build public and political support for public power.
- Provide Superior Power Award – Highlights communities that deliver reliable, affordable and sustainable electric power.
- Customer-Centered Innovation Award – Recognizes public power providers that innovate and invest to better serve their customers and communities.
- People Award – Distinguishes communities that leverage their people as their greatest asset.
“Receiving recognition in all five categories speaks to the work our Public Power team does every day for the people of Statesville,” said Leis. “From maintaining a reliable electric system and planning for our community’s future to finding better ways to serve our customers, our employees take a great deal of pride in providing locally owned, community-focused power.”
Statesville’s recognition across all five categories reflects the broad role Public Power plays in the community, from investing in the electric system and maintaining reliable service to supporting customers, preparing for future growth and developing the employees who keep Statesville powered.
“We’re proud to honor this year’s recipients and the positive impact their work has on public power customers,” said Roy Jones, CEO at ElectriCities. “Behind every one of these awards is a team of skilled professionals committed to serving their community at the highest level, and we are thrilled to celebrate them.”
