Crime Prevention Month

October 2026

WHEREAS, the safety and well-being of those who live, work, and visit the City of Statesville are essential to a strong and thriving community; and

WHEREAS, crime prevention begins with awareness, including understanding emerging risks, recognizing warning signs, making informed decisions, and taking practical steps to protect ourselves and others; and

WHEREAS, social media can expose individuals and families to cyberbullying, harmful content, illegal drug sales, fraud, and other threats that require greater awareness and open conversations, particularly with young people; and

WHEREAS, fraud and scams continue to target individuals through phone calls, text messages, email, social media, and other methods designed to obtain money or personal information; and

WHEREAS, counterfeit products can pose serious health and safety risks, support criminal activity, and deceive consumers who believe they are purchasing legitimate goods; and

WHEREAS, responsible firearm ownership and secure storage, along with teaching children what to do if they encounter a firearm, can help prevent accidents, theft, and misuse; and

WHEREAS, the Statesville Police Department provides education, outreach, and resources throughout the year to help residents recognize risks, prevent crime, and contribute to the safety of our community; and

WHEREAS, the City of Statesville has selected "Crime Prevention Starts With Awareness" as its 2026 Crime Prevention Month theme, emphasizing that informed individuals and engaged communities play an important role in creating a safer Statesville.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Douglas Hendrix, Mayor of the City of Statesville, do hereby proclaim October 2026 as Crime Prevention Month in the City of Statesville and encourage all residents, businesses, schools, organizations, and community partners to learn about current safety risks, share crime prevention information, and take steps to protect themselves and others.
