Local Childcare Pioneer Celebrates Over Two Decades of Nurturing Statesville's Children
Piper Cline's journey in early childhood education began with a clear mission: to make a lasting impact on young lives in her community. Armed with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Catawba College and 12 years of classroom experience at Troutman Elementary, Cline brought her passion for teaching to a new level when she became the Owner and Director of American Child in 1999, formerly known as Best of America. Cline was seeking a way to play a role in her young son’s education and continue her love for teaching. American Child allowed her to do both.
Through economic downturns, recessions, and the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Johnson remained steadfast in her commitment to keeping the center's doors open for Statesville families. Her determination to provide consistent, quality childcare has been unwavering, even during the most difficult times. In 2010, her husband Jimmy joined the family business, bringing their combined childcare experience to over 40 years of dedicated service to the community.
The community was invited to join American Child as they celebrate their 25 Year Anniversary with a ribbon cutting and red carpet celebration on June 12. This milestone event honors a quarter-century of dedicated service to Statesville families and the countless children who have grown and learned within their walls.
Perhaps nothing brings Cline more joy than witnessing the full circle of her impact—when former students from her teaching days at Troutman Elementary return as parents, entrusting their own children to her care. These moments reflect the deep trust and lasting relationships that American Child has built within the Statesville community, demonstrating how quality early childhood education creates bonds that span generations.
