Iredell County, NC – The United Way of Iredell County Endowment for the Future contributed the remaining $5,706.49 to allow the DSS Lonely Children’s Fund to reach their goal of $25,000 raised to meet the needs of foster children across our county. This gift was made possible by a partnership with a generous local donor who designated their gift in support of this effort.

Yvette Smith, DSS Director, states: “The Lonely Children’s Fund achieves important outcomes for youth in foster care. These donated funds allow children in foster care to receive items that give them a sense of normalcy amongst their peers. These keepsake items are school photos, annual year books, class rings and graduation announcements. It could also include money for field trips, school uniforms and fees to take part in sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities. The Lonely Children’s Fund has made a significant impact on the lives of Iredell County’s foster children. The donations and support received continue to show the community’s commitment to all children in Iredell County. We are in awe of the overwhelming amount of support and donation from the United Way’s Endowment for the Future, as this contribution was imperative in helping reach our goal. This will allow us the opportunity to use the donation to enhance the lives for children in foster care.”

Nelson Granade, Endowment Chair, shares: “We are excited to partner with our visionary donors to make dreams come true across Iredell County. Our community has a long history of support for our foster children, and continuing that legacy of love, is a wonderful step towards a thriving future community for us all.”

The United Way of Iredell County Endowment for the Future supports local non-profit organizations with a current priority focus on creating long term solutions for individuals who are experiencing housing inadequacy, strengthening our education system by supporting those who teach our children in childcare and in school, or improving our communities by directly teaching a life skill that will advance our neighbors’ quality of life.
