Veteran's Story: Chuck Savage

At Purple Heart Homes, we are committed to ensuring Veterans can live safely and comfortably in their own home. Through our Veterans Aging in Place (VAIP) Program and our partnership with Owen's Corning Roof Deployment Project, we recently completed a new roof for U.S. Marine Veteran Chuck Savage in Westland, Michigan. This project was made possible with the help of Owen's Corning's Platinum Preferred roofing contractor, Neighborhood Roofing, who generously stepped in to serve.

About Chuck Savage

Born in 1953, Chuck answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps. From September 8, 1971, to June 15, 1973, he proudly served during the Vietnam War era. Chuck was honorably discharged at the rank of Lance Corporal and was recognized for his service with the National Defense Service Medal and the Rifle Marksman Badge.

The Need

Chuck reached out to us in urgent need of help. He shared, that he was in need of a new roof on his house and garage. Chuck and his wife had spent their money on taking care of his brother who has mental and physical disabilities. Leaving a new roof unaffordable.

His old roof had deteriorated to the point where safety, security, and peace of mind were at risk. This project not only impacted him but also his wife, another member of his household.

The Project

With the support of Owens Corning and Neighborhood Roofing, we were able to provide Chuck with a brand-new roof that protects his home and ensures a safer, healthier environment for him and his family. This project is a reminder of what can be accomplished when compassionate partners and dedicated organizations come together to honor the service and sacrifice of our nation's Veterans.

Call to Action

At Purple Heart Homes, we believe every Veteran deserves to live in dignity and safety. Projects like Chuck's are only possible through the generosity of partners, volunteers, and donors who share in our mission. If you'd like to make a difference in the life of a Veteran today, we encourage you to get involved or donate.
