Veteranโs Story: Matthew Brown
In Bladenboro, North Carolina, Purple Heart Homes completed a meaningful project for U.S. Marine Veteran Matthew Brown through the Veterans Aging in Place (VAIP) Program.
Project Manager Matt Stevenson oversaw the repairs, which were funded by a North Carolina Government Grant.
A Life of Service & Sacrifice
Born in 1984, Matthew served in the U.S. Marines from September 8, 2003, to October 29, 2005, during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was honorably discharged at the rank of E-3 LCPL. During his service, Matthew sustained a gunshot wound to the upper leg and now lives with hip issues, gait problems, PTSD, and a traumatic brain injury (TBI).
His service decorations include the Combat Action Ribbon (Iraq), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Rifle Qualification Badge (Marksman).
Matthew's Immediate Need
Matthew reached out to Purple Heart Homes when he had been without water for two weeks and urgently needed a plumbing repair. Thanks to the VAIP Program and the skilled work of NuBlue, his water was restored, improving his quality of life and safety at home.
Purple Heart Homes is proud to support Matthew and other Veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country.
