Helping a Local Veteran Stay Safe at Home: Sgt. Reginald Gamble Jr. Receives Accessibility Ramp in Statesville, N.C.

Thanks to Purple Heart Homes’ Veterans Aging in Place program and support from community partners, Sgt. Reginald Gamble Jr., a U.S. Army Veteran, recently received a new accessibility ramp at his home in Statesville, North Carolina. This improvement will make it easier and safer for him to get in and out of his house, helping him maintain his independence.

About Sgt. Reginald Gamble Jr.

Sgt. Gamble was born in 1954 and served in the U.S. Army and Army National Guard from 1984 to 2004. During his two decades of service, he was deployed in several major operations, including the Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant.

Over the course of his career, he received several military honors, including:

• Army Good Conduct Medal
• National Defense Service Medal
• Overseas Service Ribbon
• Army Service Ribbon
• Army Lapel Button
• NCO Professional Development Ribbon

Now retired and a member of the American Legion, Sgt. Gamble lives in Statesville and reached out to Purple Heart Homes because of knee issues related to his service. He needed a ramp to safely access his home.

The Project

As part of the Veterans Aging in Place program, Purple Heart Homes coordinated the design and construction of a ramp tailored to Sgt. Gamble’s needs. The project was led by Matt Stevenson, who managed the construction process from start to finish.

Community Involvement

A dedicated group of volunteers came out for a Volunteer Day to help build the ramp. Their time and effort made a real difference in completing the project efficiently and with care.

We also want to thank T-Mobile, whose generous grant funded the cost of materials and construction. Their support helped make this project possible.

Giving Back

In an inspiring gesture, Sgt. Gamble donated $1,000 back to Purple Heart Homes to support future projects for Veterans in need. His contribution will help another Veteran receive similar assistance in the near future.
