Veteran's Story: William Revill
In Virginia, U.S. Navy Veteran William Revill received a new ramp at his home through our amazing volunteers at our Purple Heart Homes Central Virginia Chapter, our Veterans Aging in Place (VAIP) Program, and funding from The Home Depot Foundation, allowing him to safely navigate daily life after a loss in mobility.
A Life of Service
Born in 1947, William Revill answered the call to serve during the Vietnam and Cold War Era. He joined the United States Navy in 1964 and served until 1968.
William completed his service at the rank of E-3 and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his contribution to the nation's readiness during a time of conflict and uncertainty.
Facing New Challenges at Home
Since William's time in the military, he underwent surgery that resulted in the loss of leg mobility - a life-changing development that made it difficult for him to enter or exit his home safely. Without a proper ramp, even everyday task became difficult.
Realizing the need for improved accessibility, William reached out to Purple Heart Homes for support through the Veterans Aging in Place Program.
How Purple Heart Homes Helped
With leadership from Project Manager Tim Bates, the Central Virginia Chapter assessed William's needs and built a custom accessibility ramp tailored to his mobility challenges.
The project was funded in partnership with The Home Depot Foundation, whose ongoing support enables Purple Heart Homes to deliver life-changing modifications to Veterans across the country.
Our Mission in Action
At Purple Heart Homes, we believe no Veteran should have to struggle with basic mobility in their own home. Through the Veterans Aging in Place Program, we ensure that heroes like William Revill can live safely, comfortably, and with the dignity they deserve.
Special thanks to The Home Depot Foundation, the Central Virginia Chapter, and Project Manager Tim Bates for their outstanding work and continued dedication to Veterans in need.
