Veteran's Story: Roy Cranford
In Conover, North Carolina, U.S. Navy Veteran Roy Cranford is now living with greater safety and peace of mind, thanks to a new accessibility ramp installed through Purple Heart Homes' Veterans Aging in Place (VAIP) Program.
Roy's mobility challenges were growing more severe, but through the leadership of Project Manager Matt Stevenson and support from Lowe's Home Improvement and North Carolina grant funding, this home update became possible.
A Life of Service
Born in 1937, Roy Cranford served his country during the Vietnam War era, enlisting in the United States Navy in 1961. He earned the the rank of HM2 and was honorably discharged after contributing to the health and well-being of fellow service members during a time of need.
Facing New Health and Safety Challenges
As Roy has aged, his health concerns have become more complex. He now manages heart issues, diabetes and a high risk of falls - making it difficult and dangerous to move in and out of his home.
Recognizing the need for a safe and accessible entryway, Purple Heart Homes stepped in through the VAIP Program to help make Roy's home more suitable for his changing needs.
How Purple Heart Homes Helped
Under the guidance of Matt Stevenson, our team constructed a new entry ramp at Roy's home - providing him with a safer, more stable way to enter and exit without fear of falling.
The project was funded in partnership with Lowe's Home Improvement and supported by a North Carolina grant, both of which helped make this project possible.
Our Mission in Action
