Purple Heart Homes, in partnership with the American Legion and local nonprofits, recently celebrated the completion of repairs on Army veteran Frederick Smith’s home in Leland. The Gulf War veteran and amputee had endured severe damage from Hurricane Florence in 2018, including roof and pipe failures that caused flooding and interior destruction. Thanks to a collaborative effort supported by Lowe’s and veteran groups, Purple Heart Homes helped restore Smith’s home, improving its safety and comfort. Smith expressed heartfelt gratitude for the community’s support in helping him reclaim a place to call home.
