Ramp Installations give Disabled Veterans Freedom

On a cold, rainy November day, volunteers from Purple Heart Homes and Bronze Star Homes came together to build a wheelchair-accessible ramp for Vietnam veteran Louis Hairston. Hairston, facing an upcoming bone marrow transplant, would soon need a wheelchair, but his home had no way to accommodate it.

Thanks to a donation from Lowe’s and the hands-on work of fellow veterans, Hairston now has a ramp that gives him something priceless: independence. What once would have required being carried down the steps is now as simple as rolling out the front door.

For veterans like Hairston, these ramps don’t just improve access, they restore freedom.
