Update: Proposed Garfield/Green Street Historic District Under Review
The Garfield/Green Street Proposed Historic District is moving forward in the review process. The State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) has completed its review of the 190-page nomination, and revisions have been incorporated to ensure the document meets state requirements. In addition, a 395-page report was prepared, providing a detailed inventory of the district’s buildings, their history, and current photographs - creating a valuable record of this historic area.
The next steps include:
- August 28, 2025 at 7 p.m. – The Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) will review the nomination and make a recommendation to City Council.
- September 15, 2025 – City Council will consider the nomination and make its recommendation to SHPO for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.
This process marks an important opportunity to preserve and recognize the cultural and architectural history of Statesville.
