Statesville Is Sponsoring a Mascot Contest!
Statesville needs a mascot. Even with all its beautiful parks and greenways, historic landmarks, fun festivals and lots and lots of really great residents – there’s no mascot to represent Statesville’s all-encompassing spirit.
That’s why the City of Statesville, the Statesville Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Statesville Development Corporation have joined together to sponsor a Mascot Contest! With the help of a $500 grant from Centralina Council of Government’s “Love Where You Live Project”, the organizers have set out to solicit help in creating a character that represents all things Statesville.
Organizers are looking for original designs for the mascot, and characters must have a name and personality. “When you think of Statesville, what do you think of?,” asked Shannon Viera, Statesville Chamber President/CEO. “And then can you put those ideas and feelings into a character that represents Statesville …We want folks to get creative and have fun with it.”
The contest is open to all ages, and individuals can enter as many design ideas as they want. “There are cash prizes and a lot of bragging rights,” said Richard Griggs, Statesville Recreation and Parks Director, and a member of the Mascot Contest committee. “After the design is selected, we will get to work bringing the mascot to life and introducing him … or her … or it … to the community. We hope the mascot becomes a fixture at all of our Statesville events.”
The deadline for submissions is Monday, Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. Submissions can be emailed to email@example.com or dropped off at Statesville City Hall, the Chamber of Commerce or the Statesville Fitness and Activity Center.
