  • Parks & Recreation - Seasonal Youth Baseball Umpire

    Job Description
    Iredell County Parks and Recreation is seeking qualified individuals to serve as Youth Baseball Umpires, ages 5-12 in an established program.  Under the direct supervision of the Athletic Assistant, Youth umpires are responsible for facilitating and umpiring the youth t-ball, machine pitch and/or baseball league, March through the middle of May. 

    Positions are in effect from March 1 through May 31, 2019 with work Monday through Fridays nights 5 pm to 9 pm and Saturdays 8am – 6pm.  Also the position may be required to alternate between work sites on as needed (Statesville and Mooresville).
     
    JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Youth Umpire duties include the ability to:
    1. Control games in confident and appropriate manner.
    2. Ensure all participant comply with league rules.
    3. Make and sell calls with confidence and knowledge of league rules.
    4. Assist in emergency procedures.
    5. Make sure teams have appropriate equipment, etc.
    6. Keep records including, but not limited to, incident/accident reports, time sheets, and communication with Athletic Assistant.
    7. Other Duties Assigned.
     
    MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    Must be at least 16 years old or older.  First Aid and CPR certified preferred. Must be reliable, punctual, and work well with others.  Position requires good judgment to assure that youth baseball games are run safely and efficiently.
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and hear.  The employee will be frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee may occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

    Work is performed in a field environment; may be exposed to individuals who are difficult; and may be required to travel to different sites.  Work is usually performed outdoors in all types of weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  The employee is subject to irregular work schedules including weekdays, weekends and evenings.
      
    SALARY RANGE:  On a per game basis depending on experience.
