This celebration takes place around the world annually on the anniversary of the designation of falconry as a cultural heritage by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). To help the public understand a little about falconry, falconers will gather at Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center and will talk to the public about falconry, display some of their birds and speak to you one-on-one about their passion for birds of prey, conservation and how the birds hunt with their falconers. There will be activities for everyone to enjoy including opportunities for artists, photographers, outdoor enthusiasts and children to see these magnificent birds up close. You may also learn about other exciting outdoor opportunities and programs that Allison Woods Outdoor Learning Center provides for schools and the community year round. You will have a chance to meet and talk to top officials, past and present from both the North Carolina Falconers Guild and the North American Falconers Association, the world's largest membership falconry organization, and yes...they will have their birds with them! If you are attending, please bring water or something to drink for yourself and your family! There is no food or drink service on site. Please remember this is an outdoor event and its it is pouring rain we may cancel. Otherwise, come and have a good time! All dogs (or other pets) must be on a leash for the entire event.
